Student-Faculty
Interaction
All faculty members at Winthrop are first, and foremost, dedicated
to their students’ learning. Students learn first-hand how experts
think about and solve practical problems by interacting with faculty
members inside and outside of the classroom. At Winthrop, faculty
members are students’ role models and mentors.
Compared to their peers across the board on the 2008 NSSE, Winthrop
first-year and senior students indicated a significant amount more
involvement in:
• Discussing grades or assignments with an instructor
• Talking about career plans with a faculty member or advisor
• Working with faculty members on activities other than coursework
Why is Winthrop University so strong in the area of
student-faculty interaction?
• Winthrop University emphasizes student participation in faculty
research and provides significant funding to support such
participation
• Faculty teaching effectiveness and engagement with students are
major factors in their evaluation
