Supportive Campus
Environment
Students perform better, persist longer, and are more satisfied with
their overall college experiences when the institution is committed
to student success and cultivates positive working and social
relations among different groups on campus
Compared to their peers across the board on the 2008 NSSE, Winthrop
first-year and senior students indicated a significant amount more
focus on:
• Providing the support you need to help you succeed academically
• Helping you cope with your non-academic responsibilities (work,
family, etc.)
• Providing the support you need to thrive socially
Why is Winthrop University so strong in the area of supportive
campus environment?
• Winthrop has a Writing Center and math laboratory that support
student communication and quantitative skills development across
disciplines
• Academic support for math, writing, and other areas is provided in
the residence halls
• Student Life – especially Dinkins Student Union – sponsors a
variety of social and entertainment programs for students throughout
the academic year
