Enriching Educational Experiences
Complementary learning opportunities in and out of class augment
academic programs. Experiences involving diversity teach students
valuable things about themselves, as well as others. Technology
facilitates collaboration between peers and instructors.
Internships, community service, and senior capstone courses provide
opportunities to integrate and apply knowledge.
Compared to their peers across the board on the 2008 NSSE, Winthrop
first-year and senior students indicated a significant amount more
involvement in:
• Practicums, internships, field experiences, co-ops, and clinical
assignments
• Community service or volunteer work
• Foreign language coursework
• Encouraging contact among students from different economic,
social, and racial or ethnic backgrounds
Why is Winthrop University so strong in the area of enriching
educational experiences?
• Winthrop offers an extensive array of internships, practicums, and
co-ops
• Winthrop requires all undergraduate students to attend three
cultural activities (such as special lectures, plays, art
exhibitions, and concerts) for every 20 hours of completed
coursework
• The University has a very active and effective International
Center that promotes and supports international experiences for
students
