Graphic: question Who is classified as a transfer applicant?
Graphic: answer A transfer applicant is a student who enrolls in college after graduation from high school. Note: A student who takes a course in summer school immediately after high school graduation or through dual enrollment while in high school is classified as a freshman applicant.
Graphic: question I am currently enrolled at another college. When should I apply for admission?
Graphic: answer We suggest that you apply for admission at the beginning of your last semester or quarter of attendance at your present institution. Your application will be evaluated using the cumulative GPA earned to date. If we offer admission, it will be with the condition that you maintain a term and cumulative GPA of 2.0 (4.0 scale).
Graphic: question Can I transfer if I haven't completed 30 hours?
Graphic: answer

You can be considered for transfer admission at any point in your college career.  If you have attempted fewer than 12 hours, your admission will be based on performance in college, high school GPA and test scores. Emphasis will be placed on college performance.  Students who complete 13 or more semester hours must satisfy the transfer GPA requirement: a cumulative GPA of 2.0.  Students must also earn a 2.0 GPA for the last term of attendance.

Note: All applicants who have completed fewer than 30 hours must submit an official copy of their final high school transcript or GED to verify completion of high school.
Graphic: question Are all applicants who have completed fewer than 12 semester hours required to submit the results of the SAT or ACT?
Graphic: answer Applicants who have been out of high school for five or more years are not required to submit standardized test scores.
Graphic: question My GPA earned at a previous college is poor, but I was a good student in high school. Can I apply as a freshman applicant?
Graphic: answer

You can only be considered as a freshman applicant if you have never attended a college after high school graduation. If previous college attendance is omitted from our application and is subsequently discovered by a Winthrop official prior to enrollment, our offer of admission will be revoked. If the omission is discovered after enrollment, the student will be dismissed from Winthrop.

Graphic: question I am applying as a New Start applicant. Are the admissions requirements different for New Start transfers?
Graphic: answer

New Start is a service program for students whose age is 25 years or older. The New Start staff provides information and assistance to students beginning at the application stage and continuing up to commencement.

In general, New Start transfers must meet the same GPA requirements as traditional transfers. Factors such as time elapsed since the last college enrollment will be considered, but a New Start transfer applicant whose GPA is significantly below 2.0, can not be offered admission to Winthrop

Graphic: question If I attended more than one college, which GPA will you use?
Graphic: answer Official transcripts are needed from each college you have attended. We will divide the grade points by the grade hours earned at all colleges you have attended to calculate your cumulative GPA.
Graphic: question Do courses that won't transfer to Winthrop count toward my 30 hours?
Graphic: answer All courses that you have completed at another college will count toward your 30 credit hours, regardless of whether the courses will transfer to Winthrop or not.
Graphic: question Who decides which of my courses will transfer?
Graphic: answer

The evaluation of transfer credit is conducted in the student services office of each academic area. Upon admission, the applicants' transcripts are forwarded to the appropriate office, and students will receive written notification of their transfer credit. If you are transferring from a technical college in South Carolina, many courses have been pre-approved for transfer credit. View the current list. Additional information on transfer credit can be found at www.winthrop.edu/admissions/transfer.

Graphic: question Will classes from XYZ University transfer to Winthrop?
Graphic: answer

Courses from any college that is accredited by the commission on colleges of a regional accreditation agency can be considered for transfer credit to Winthrop University if the course was completed with a grade of "C" or higher. The academic division receiving the student determines the applicability of courses into any curriculum at Winthrop. Classes designated as "developmental" or "remedial" cannot be considered for transfer credit at Winthrop.

If you are transferring from a technical college in South Carolina, many courses have been pre-approved for transfer credit. View the current list.

Graphic: question I want to change my major. Do I have to start over completely?
Graphic: answer The courses that you have already completed may fulfill some of the requirements for the new major, or they may count as elective credit. It is best to discuss this with an advisor in the office of student services in the college of your new major.
Graphic: question What is the maximum number of credits I can transfer to Winthrop?
Graphic: answer Only 65 hours can be transferred from a two-year college. Students who have completed course work in general studies programs are permitted to transfer only 15 hours of selected courses from such programs into any curriculum at Winthrop.
Graphic: question I work during the day. What classes are available in the evening?
Graphic: answer Evening courses vary each semester. You can access the most recent "Schedule of Courses" on the Records and Registration web site to get a general idea of the times when courses are offered.  Visit Wingspan and click on "Course Offerings" to look up individual classes.
Graphic: question Can I complete my degree through evening classes only?
Graphic: answer The Bachelor of Science in Business Administration with a concentration in accounting or management can be earned completely through evening courses
Graphic: question I only want to attend classes part time. Is there a different application process?
Graphic: answer The application process is the same whether you want to be a part-time or full-time student.
Graphic: question How much does it cost to take classes part-time?
Graphic: answer Go to the most up-to-date tuition information.
Graphic: question What scholarships are available for transfer students?
Graphic: answer

Winthrop University does not offer merit scholarships to transfer students. Transfer students can be considered for Winthrop scholarships after completing course work at Winthrop. Talent scholarships are available for athletes and transfer students who will major in music, art, dance, or theatre. Visit the Financial Aid website for additional information.

A South Carolina resident may be eligible for the LIFE Scholarship if he or she has met the requirements for continuing student eligibility. Visit the South Carolina Commission on Higher Education Web site for more information.

Graphic: question Can I transfer my financial aid from my previous college?
Graphic: answer Federal loans and grants can often be transferred from other institutions. You should request that a copy of your FAFSA (Federal Application for Free Student Aid) be sent to the Office of Financial Aid. Our code is 003456. Scholarships awarded by individual universities cannot be transferred.
