Graphic: question I have definitely decided to attend Winthrop. How do I let you know?
Graphic: answer All admitted students must submit a nonrefundable admissions deposit of $300 by the date stated in your admissions letter. This deposit reserves your place in the freshman class and is deducted from your fees for the first semester.
Graphic: question What if I have not confirmed my plans to attend Winthrop - should I pay the deposit anyway?
Graphic: answer The admissions deposit is nonrefundable. You should not submit the deposit until you confirm your plans to enroll.
Graphic: question My acceptance packet included a health form. Do I have to send it to you?
Graphic: answer

EVERY student is required to submit a Winthrop University Health Services Medical Form. Proof of immunization is required of all students prior to registration for classes. The requirements are detailed in the Medical Form that is enclosed in your acceptance packet and is also available online at www.winthrop.edu/hcs/healthservices-home.htm. The physical examination portion of the Medical Form must be completed before a student can receive treatment at Health Services.

Graphic: question How can I apply for Winthrop academic scholarships?
Graphic: answer

Winthrop does not require a separate scholarship application. We use the credentials submitted with your application for admission.

Typically, freshman applicants who score at least 1250 on the SAT or 28 on the ACT and earn a grade point average of 3.5 (4.0 scale) in academic courses will be considered for scholarships. The application deadline for scholarship consideration is January 15. Award letters will be mailed to scholarship recipients in early February. Additional information can be found on the Office of Financial Aid website (types/academics).

Graphic: question Do you have a scholarship for students who are interested in continuing their community service involvement while enrolled at Winthrop?
Graphic: answer Yes, the Close Scholarship is awarded to South Carolina residents who demonstrate financial need, scholastic excellence, and a commitment to community involvement and service. Interested students must complete the FAFSA and a Close Scholarship application (available through the Office of Financial Aid -types/service) and submit two letters of reference. Visit the Close Scholarship website for additional information.
Graphic: question Do you have other scholarships?
Graphic: answer The appropriate department awards athletic and other talent-based scholarships. Please refer to the Financial Aid website (types/talent) for additional information on talent awards.
Graphic: question A scholarship list is included in my catalog. How can I apply for these awards?
Graphic: answer Your application credentials will be considered for all academic awards that are available to freshmen.
Graphic: question Will you notify me if I do not qualify for scholarships?
Graphic: answer No, we only send letters to scholarship recipients.
Graphic: question When should I apply for need-based financial aid?
Graphic: answer Generally, you should apply for aid as soon as your parents have completed their federal income tax returns. It is recommended that you apply no later than March 1. Complete information on the financial aid application process can be found on the Financial Aid website.
Graphic: question I would like to work on campus. How do I obtain information on employment opportunities?
Graphic: answer The Office of Financial Aid maintains information on campus employment. A student employment fair is usually held during the first week of classes.
Graphic: question How are students selected for the Honors Program?
Graphic: answer The Honors Program extends an invitation to selected freshmen based on high school GPA and SAT or ACT scores. These invitations are mailed beginning in January.
Graphic: question When do I register for classes?

Graphic: question I am taking (or have taken) an AP or IB course. How do I get course credit for it?
Graphic: answer To get credit for an AP or IB course you need to ask the appropriate testing program to send the original scores to the Office of Admissions. For complete information on Winthrop's AP and IB policies, you can refer to our website:
Advance Placement Credit Program (AP)

Graphic: question I have taken courses at another college. How do I receive credit at Winthrop?
Graphic: answer You must inform the Office of Admissions of any course for which you will receive college credit. You should request that the college or university send an official transcript to the Office of Admissions. We cannot accept college credit that is printed on high school transcripts. The office of student academic services in your academic area will evaluate transfer credit. Your final grade must be a "C" or higher, and courses must be completed at a college that is accredited by the commission on colleges of a regional accrediting agency.
Graphic: question I completed the Teacher Cadet course in high school. How can I receive college credit for this course?
Graphic: answer Each Teacher Cadet high school is affiliated with a four-year university that is located in the immediate vicinity. If your high school is affiliated with Winthrop, the course will be posted to your Winthrop transcript. If your high school is affiliated with another university, your Teacher Cadet instructor can tell you if that university will award credit (the credit policy varies by institution). If you determine that you will receive college credit for the course, you should request that the university send an official transcript to the Office of Admissions. We cannot accept Teacher Cadet credit that is printed on high school transcripts.
Graphic: question When should I reserve campus housing?
Graphic: answer The Department of Residence Life mails a housing packet to each student upon admission. You can submit your housing forms at anytime, but keep in mind that housing is assigned based on the date your forms are received by The Department of Residence Life. We recommend that you send it as soon as possible. Note: All forms can be found in the Advantage booklet that was enclosed in your acceptance packet.
Graphic: question When will I have my room assignment?
Graphic: answer The Residence Life Office will mail room assignments in July.
Graphic: question How do they choose roommates?
