FAQ (Frequently Asked Questions)

Listed below are common questions asked of the Cashiers Office. If you don't see your particular concern listed below then please feel free to contact us.

   
Q How do I pay my fees?
A For information on online payments look at our payment options page or go to our paying over the internet page.

At these sites, you may pay by electronic check or American Express, MasterCard or Discover credit cards. Please be advised that credit card transactions will be assessed a 2.5% transaction fee. Visa branded credit cards are no longer accepted.

The Cashier's Office cannot accept credit card payments at the teller windows, by mail or by telephone.

Q When will I receive my Spring bill?
A If you register for classes by November 11th,  you should receive a bill by November 15th. Fees are due by 5:00 p.m. December 11th.

If you register for classes after 5:00 p.m. November 11th but before 5:00 p.m. November 25th, you should receive a bill by November 29th.  Fees are due by 5:00 p.m. December 11th.

If you register for classes after 5:00 p.m. November 25th, YOU WILL NOT RECEIVE A BILL. Fees are due by 5:00 p.m. December 11th.

If you register for classes on or after December 11th, your fees are due by 5:00 p.m. on the day you register.  If you register on a weekend, fees are due by 5:00 p.m. of the next business day.

   
Q If I was expecting to receive a bill but did not, what should I do?
A Call the Controller’s Office at (803) 323-2165. We will be glad to discuss your account with you.
   
Q What will happen if I do not pay by the payment schedule?
A Your class schedule will be dropped. You will then have to re-register and pay your fees.
   
Q I don’t owe any money, what should I do?
A Even if you have a balance of zero, you must have your schedule validated by the fee payment deadline. You can validate your schedule by any one of the
following ways:
  • If your balance is zero you may use online validation. PLEASE NOTE: Request validation only when your balance is $0. If you owe a balance, please do not use this feature. Your schedule will be validated by the Cashiers Office when you make your payment.
  • By calling the Cashier’s Office at (803) 323-2167 or the Controller’s Office at (803) 323-2165
  • Return the bottom portion of your bill to the Cashier’s Office by the fee payment deadline
   
Q When do I make my first payment under the Winthrop Payment Plan if I register online?
A The payment is due by the fee payment deadline of December 11th and must be received in the Cashiers Office before your registration can be validated. You should follow up your online registration by sending your payment to Cashiers. The Winthrop Payment Plan is not available for summer sessions. 
   
Q How do I get a book voucher?
A Book vouchers will no longer be issued except under very rare circumstances. Refunds will be processed beginning January 9, 2008.  If a student receives a refund, there should be no need for a book voucher. Refunds will be deposited directly into students' bank accounts if they have so authorized through a  Direct Deposit Agreement  If the student does not elect this option, checks will be mailed directly to the student's permanent address.
   
Q When will I get my refund?
A Refund processing for Spring semester will begin on Wednesday, January 9, 2008 . Refunds will be deposited directly into students' bank accounts if they have so authorized through a  Direct Deposit Agreement  If the student does not elect this option, checks will be mailed directly to the student's permanent address.

REMINDER:  Financial aid eligibility changes when enrollment status changes.  Your original award was determined using the enrollment status (full time, three quarter, etc.) you reported on your FAFSA.  If your enrollment status at Winthrop drops below the anticipated status you provided on the FAFSA during the period of time allotted for course changes, your aid may be reduced.  Should this occur, you will be responsible for repaying a portion of your refund to Winthrop.

   
Q Will my refund be processed on January 9th if I am a student athlete?
A To ensure compliance with NCAA regulations, all refund checks for athletes must be approved by the Athletic Department. This may result in a delay of 5-7 days before your refund is available.
   
Q How is my tuition payment spent?
A Your in-state tuition payment of $5,105 is broken down as follows:
