What to Expect

  • The three-week Internship will be in May each year.

  • Interns will complete readings in preparation for some of the sessions.

  • Typical hours of the Internship will be 9 am - 5 pm Monday through Friday of those weeks.

  • There may be some afternoon breaks and late afternoon guest speakers which alter those times.

  • We may start earlier on days that we visit high schools.

  • There will be a few evening socials, which may include travel to local resources.

  • REGARDLESS OF THE FINAL SCHEDULE, IT IS EXTREMELY IMPORTANT YOU DO NOT PLAN TO WORK DURING THOSE THREE WEEKS!

  • The mornings of the first two weeks, Interns will work with the research mentor(s) in their content areas to learn more about and participate in research opportunities. In the afternoons there will be sessions related to mathematics and science high school education with College of Education, high school, and school district representatives.

  • View a Sample Internship Schedule (representative of several past summers)

  • Each summer the Internship focuses on a common theme which influences all experiences including visits to local resources.  Water-related issues will guide the next summer internship with visits likely to include the Rock Hill Water Treatment facility, kayaking on the river, and time with the Catawba River Keeper.

  • All interns will also participate in Project WET (Water Education for Teachers) training.

  • We will work together to formulate some classroom experiences for the four days spent in local high need high school classrooms.
