West Forum

In 2017-2018, the John C. West Forum is celebrating 15 years of promoting civic engagement and 10 years at Winthrop University. We thank the late Governor for his vision and commitment to public service.

For the second year, the West Forum is conducting the Palmetto Focus series; a series of discussion forums where state decision-makers and activists discuss issues important to our state. 2016-17 events included forums about Act 388, the future of the Affordable Care Act in South Carolina, and a discussion about economics and race in South Carolina. The Palmetto Focus series is underwritten by Morton & Gettys and Robinson Bradshaw law firms.

Gubernatorial Debate

Winthrop University and the South Carolina League of Women Voters are co-hosting a multi-candidate debate among candidates for governor. To date, six candidates have confirmed their participation. The debate will be held on April 19, 2018 at 7 p.m. in Plowden Auditorium, Withers Building. The debate is an approved cultural event.

  The West Forum and Alpha Phi Alpha Graduate Fraternity will host a live Town Hall with the Rock Hill City Leadership. Invitees will be the mayor and city council members. The city leaders will discuss key issues facing the city and their agenda for future growth.
