Protecting Your Schedule

To be Sure that Your Account is Settled:

You can check your account’s status in Wingspan. Click on the “Student” tab, click on “Registration” and then “Schedule Protection Status.”

If you owe any funds:

  • Set up a payment plan through Wingspan and make your 1st payment by the due date and time
  • Pay your balance in FULL by the due date and time

To pay off the remainder on your accounts (if there is any remainder) please log into WINGSPAN and go to “Account Summary” and “Payments” to make your payment online.  You may also visit the Cashiers Office in 22 Tillman to pay with check or cash.

To Protect Your Schedule:

Students who receive Ch. 33 and Ch. 31 Educational Benefits (Tuition is sent to Winthrop directly from the VA) are able to “protect” their schedules while waiting for payment from the VA.

The students MUST have given the Veterans Benefits Coordinator an up-to-date Certificate of Eligibility or eBenefits screenshot showing the student’s eligibility percentage and number of months of entitlement remaining.

The following explains exactly how an account can be “protected”:

When your account is cleared your classes are “PROTECTED”, meaning your schedule will not be dropped by their system.  The system drops schedules automatically when there is a balance left on your account.

Ch. 33 OR Ch. 31 student recipients who send the Veterans Benefits Coordinator their schedule are automatically added to a list which is forwarded to Student Financial Services.  Student Financial Services then places an “ESTIMATED EXPECTED BALANCE” on those student accounts.

This does not mean that your account is protected.

There are several fees and expenses that the VA will not cover.  Any smaller balance left on a student account AFTER the “estimated expected balance” is placed will still need to be paid for.

Remember, the VA will cover only TUITION AND ACADEMIC FEES.  Fees outside of this might include:

  • Application Fees
  • Enrollment Fees
  • Residential Life Fees
  • Meal Plans
  • Parking Decals
  • Study Abroad Fees
  • Parking Tickets
  • Orientation Fees
  • Family Orientation Fees
