Purchasing Textbooks/Supplies with Refund

New for 2019!

Winthrop University and Barnes & Noble Bookstore have teamed up to help students to use their excess financial aid/student account credit to purchase books before classes begin. Students must have a valid Winthrop ID Card and must have an anticipated refund for the Summer 2019 term.

Who is Eligible?

Students who have completed registration for Summer term, and have a negative (credit) balance on their student account approximately 10 days before the Fee Payment Deadline for the term are eligible to use their excess funds (anticipated refund) to pay for textbooks and supplies.  Students must also have a valid Winthrop ID Card.

How can I see my account balance?

To view your account balance, log into WINGSPAN, click on Account Summary and Payments. Students must have a credit balance at least 10 days before the Fee Payment Deadline.

When can I use this credit?

For Summer 2019, students will only be allowed to purchase textbooks and supplies between April 30th and May 13th, 2019.  After May 13th, students will either need to wait on their refunds to be processed and received, or purchase their books out-of-pocket while they wait on their refund. Winthrop will begin processing refunds for eligible students after the add/drop for Maymester. We highly encourage all students to sign up for Direct Deposit for Refunds in order to receive their money as quickly and safely as possible. For students who are enrolling in summer sessions that begin in June or later, and have a pending refund as of May 20th, will be allowed to purchase textbooks and supplies between May 21st and June 3rd, 2019. After June 3rd, students will either need to wait on their refunds to be processed and received, or purchase their books out-of-pocket while they wait on their refund.

How much can I spend?

Students may spend up to $800 of their credit on textbooks and supplies.  Students who wish to use more than $800 should wait for their refund to process or pay the difference out-of-pocket. Students who have a credit balance of less than $800 will only be eligible to use up to the amount of their credit in the bookstore.

Can I order/pay online using my credit?

Yes! Students may use their credit to purchase textbooks online. When you select your payment method, please choose “Student Account/Financial Aid Credit” as your payment option. Please contact the bookstore at 803-323-3800 if you have questions about purchases online.

I missed the opportunity to use my student account/financial aid credit for my books. What can I do next semester to make sure I can charge my books against my account credit?

Because the opportunity to use your credit toward books ends before the semester begins, students are strongly encouraged to make sure that all of their financial aid requirements and any parent loans or private loans are applied for as early as possible. Parent and private loans can take up to 2 weeks to show up on your student account as a credit, so be sure to apply for any additional aid as early as possible.
