We’re a group of women who want to learn JavaScript together. We welcome people of all levels. Beginners are especially encouraged. You move at your own pace in this group, so it doesn’t matter if you are a fast or slow learner, or if you attend every week. (You can use any study materials or work on personal side projects. Whatever you prefer to learn.)

We meet every Wednesday, 6:30 – 8:30pm.

Format

We generally start introductions around 6:45pm and then work on coding problems, independently or with others. Many of us are using codecademy.com (http://codecademy.com/), but we welcome other tools. Although the focus is on JavaScript, we also cover closely related topics such as HTML and CSS.

There will typically be more experienced coders available to help beginners with what they are stuck on.

(The only tools you need to start using JavaScript are a web browser and optionally a simple text editor or code editor.)

This event is targeted to people who identify as female.

The event starts at 7:00 pm and usually runs for a few hours.

It’s taking place at Substantial on Capitol Hill. Nearest cross-street is Pine and Broadway. The entrance is just to the right of Sugarpill across the street from Molly Moon. Dial 202 on the intercom and someone will let you in!

6-6:15 pm Introductions

6:15-8:30 +/- pm A meetup especially for developers and experts so we can share resources and best practices. Get in touch if you’d like to be part of the program.

The meetup will be in the IdeaLab. It is in the Community Technology Center at the Central Library, on the southwest end of level 4. Take the elevators up and walk into the computer lab. Head towards, and then past the Ask Desk – look for the big glass door behind the stacks of computer books.

Tools needed: Wireless-equipment that you use for working on WordPress

We currently run one meetup per month. We try to alternate between end-user/beginner talks one month and development/technical talks the following month. As it all depends on availability of presenters though, please make sure you keep an eye out on the topics for the particular month once we update the meetup page with all the details.

We’re always looking for new speakers, so contact the organisers in the meetup.com sidebar if you have an idea for a talk. We usually start the night with a light meal before the talks.
