FAQs - Laptop Request Information

How do I make a request for a laptop?

Send a request from your official Winthrop email account to servicedesk@winthrop.edu. Please include the following information:

  • First name
  • Last name
  • CWID (Campus Wide ID – Log into Wingspan to locate it)
  • Specific software you may need

When your request is received and processed, you will receive a message on laptop availability and directions on how to receive your assigned laptop. Once you receive a notification to come to campus to pick up your laptop, be sure to pick up your laptop within five business days. Laptops that are not picked up within five business days will be made available for the next request. If your laptop request is cancelled, you can submit another request.

How long may I keep the laptop?

Students who are returning for the Spring 2021 semester may keep the laptop until January 19, 2021. Please note: the laptop may be recalled for maintenance and upkeep compliance standards. If your laptop is recalled, instructions will be offered for getting another laptop.

How do I return the laptop?

You have two options to return a laptop:

  1. Bring the laptop back to Dacus Library and return it to the Information Commons Desk on the Main Floor.
  2. Place the laptop in the mailing box that is provided with the device and send it via the United States Postal Service. The cost for this service is about $11. The Library does not provide pre-paid postage labels.

Are there late fees or fines?

Overdue laptops will be assessed a fee of $1,100. The fee will be waived when the laptop is returned and verified to be in good condition.
