Winthrop University: Records & Registration - Diploma and Regalia

Undergraduate Commencement:

Diploma & Academic Regalia

Diplomas are not given out during the Commencement exercises, but obtained from a representative of the Office of Records and Registration in a designated room off the arena floor immediately after the ceremony. Student Marshals will direct you to the room.

Academic Regalia

All commencement participants must wear only appropriate academic regalia which is distributed to students through the campus bookstore.   Graduates may wear stoles (that represent Winthrop organizations) and cords (represent acadmic University recognized honor societies); however, caps may not be decorated.

Graduates who earn official Winthrop academic honors - Summa Cum Laude, Magna Cum Laude, Cum Laude, and Honors Recognition - and graduates with Honors Program degrees will receive cords from the Office of Records and Registration staff at check-in for commencement.

Men should remove academic caps during the singing of the national anthem and the alma mater.

Caps/Gowns can be purchased by:

-  Calling the WINTHROP BOOKSTORE AT 803-323-3800.

-  CAPS/GOWNS will also be available for purchase at the Winthrop Bookstore after Wednesday, March 25.

If you arrive with the wrong regalia, you will need to purchase the proper attire in order to participate in the ceremony.
