Faculty and Staff

September 14, 2017

Dear Colleagues:

Inspired by student change agents, the Leadership and Social Change Series utilizes faculty and staff expertise to build on campus conversations in the context of Winthrop University’s strategic initiatives on civic engagement and diversity in an attempt to create a national model to help our students learn how to effect change on the local, state, national, and international levels.

The Series consists of six Tuesday common time cultural events between September and March, three each semester, with a concluding keynote speaker in April as the seventh and final event. The overall purpose of the series is to help our students think strategically and intentionally about how they can use civility and respect to engage in critical conversations and compromise in an attempt to achieve positive change in our world.

The Leadership and Social Change Series Closing Keynote Address will be given by Dr. Cynthia Enloe, Research Professor in the Department of International Development, Community, and Environment at Clark University in Worcester, Massachusetts and author of 14 books. Dr. Enloe will offer a concluding keynote address utilizing her global expertise in Political Science and Women's and Gender Studies to help our students understand how they can effect change on the local, state, national, and international levels.

I would like to thank Dr. Jennifer Disney for all her work in putting this series together, and all the faculty and staff who are participating. Their efforts exemplify why Winthrop is so widely known for an educational experience that prepares our students for professional success and civic engagement.

Please see a listing of all of the events on the poster attached, beginning with the Constitution Day Recognition event next week, and encourage your students to attend.
