Dear Students,
As you may already know, Winthrop classes are cancelled October 10th-11th and offices
are closed October 10th due to continuing issues resulting from the Oct. 9 City of
Rock Hill water main break. The Critical Incident Management Team met twice today
and will meet again tomorrow morning as members monitor information coming from the
City and determine its impact on the campus.
Because of issues of sanitation, including those relative to food service, we are
strongly encouraging all students who can, to leave campus. Residence Life is reaching
out to students who may not have the option to leave campus and will work with them
on solutions. Staff should look for guidance from HR in the coming days on the leave
situation for Oct. 10th.
As noted previously, campus restrooms should not be used until further notice. We
do have portajons available at these locations on campus:
Outside the West Center along Scholars Walk
In front of Wofford and Richardson on President's Circle
At Phelps on Senior Circle
In the Courtyard parking lot
It's important for anyone on campus to understand that our water is not potable or
safe until it has been tested by City officials and likely retested by a contract
vendor. You will be informed when it is safe for eating, drinking and bathing.
It is unclear when the water main issue will be resolved. Winthrop will continue to
monitor the situation and provide additional updates as they are available.
Sincerely,
Dan Mahony
President
