Dear Colleagues:
Jeff Perez, vice president for university relations, has let me know he will be leaving
Winthrop on Oct. 10, 2018, to become president of the South Carolina Independent Colleges
and Universities. This association, based in Columbia, advocates for 20 distinct and
diverse institutions of higher learning across South Carolina.
While we are sad to see Jeff go, we are excited for what lies ahead for him at SCICU.
In recent years as vice president, Jeff brought together government relations, university
events, and communications and marketing into one division. He guided communications
strategy for three Winthrop presidents. He assisted my transition to Winthrop and
has been among those who have raised Winthrop's profile in Columbia. He has worked
to increase our visibility in the Rock Hill community and statewide, and our institutional
branding has been refined on his watch.
Before joining Winthrop in January 2014, Jeff served as vice president for external
affairs at The Citadel, overseeing a division responsible for media relations, public
affairs, and marketing. He also previously worked at Shawnee State University in Ohio
for three years as executive director of communications and government affairs, where
he oversaw media and community relations and coordinated the university's government
relations.
Please join me in congratulating Jeff on the new challenges and opportunities that
await him at SCICU. I hope you will be able to wish Jeff well from 2-4 p.m. on Tuesday,
October 9, in 114 Tillman Hall, as we recognize his contributions to Winthrop University.
