Faculty and Staff - October 30, 2019

Dear Colleagues:

Fall is a special time on campus. In addition to campus happenings, cooler weather is (finally!) here, as is the fall Winthrop Magazine. I encourage you to read this edition by clicking the link below.

This Winthrop Magazine begins with a spotlight on the fascinating work of Assistant Professor of Anthropology Brent Woodfill, who is in a race against time to save and preserve a collection of historic Maya artifacts from more than 1,200 years ago. Read more about Brent and his discoveries on pages 2-3.

There’s much more in this issue as well, including:

· A look at two destination programs – Bachelor of Professional Studies and esports – that will help put Winthrop on the radar of prospective students.

· Features on junior Justin Rose and two alumni: Jeuel Bannister Esmacher ’44, one of 38 World War II code breakers who is featured in a New York Times bestselling book, and Christopher Tidwell ’85, the CEO of Magformers, an innovative STEM-focused toy company.

· A look at some of our recent highlights, and news from the areas of university advancement and alumni relations.

I encourage you to explore the magazine by clicking on the link above. Please share the magazine with anyone who may be interested in all that is happening at Winthrop.

Thank you for all that you do for Winthrop.

Sincerely,
Dan
