Dear Colleagues:
November is always a very busy month as we begin wrapping up the semester and head
into the holiday season. As you fill up your calendar, please consider adding the
following upcoming happenings:
Homecoming
Homecoming is one of my favorite Winthrop events. There are lots of activities happening
this week and weekend that I hope you’ll attend. I’m looking forward to stopping by
Friday evening’s class reunion events, as well as checking out Homecoming on the Green,
and attending Saturday’s alumni concert, Alumni Awards Luncheon, tailgate and men’s
basketball game. Make plans to enjoy this special time, and check out the full calendar
of events at www.winthrop.edu/homecoming.
Staff and Faculty Conferences
I encourage you to participate in Staff Conference on Tuesday, Nov. 19, at 2 p.m.
in Dina’s Place. Faculty Conference will meet on Friday, Nov. 22, at 2 p.m. in 018
Kinard Hall.
Big South Conference Volleyball Championship
Winthrop Athletics will host the Nov. 22-24 Big South Conference Volleyball Championship
at the Winthrop Coliseum. Our volleyball team captured the Big South regular season
title and is currently undefeated in conference play. The team has compiled an impressive
21-4 record while remaining undefeated at home. I encourage you to attend all of the
exciting games during the tournament, but I would like to especially encourage you
to come cheer for the Eagles. The Eagles will have a quarterfinal round bye and will
open tournament play in the semifinals on Saturday, Nov. 23, at 4:30 p.m. A win will
advance the Eagles to the championship final on Sunday, Nov. 24, at 4 p.m. If you
can’t attend, you can watch the semifinal matches on ESPN+, and the championship match
will be available on ESPN3. Let’s go, Eagles!
Upcoming Holiday Events
I hope you will have the opportunity to stop by the following holiday events:
·The 84th annual Tree Lighting Celebration is on Friday, Dec. 6, at 6 p.m. on the front lawn. This festive kick-off for the holiday season at Winthrop and the City’s Christmasville festival is always a lot of fun. Performances by the RockHettes and several singing groups, free cookies and hot chocolate, and, of course, the lighting of the historic magnolia tree are highlights of this free event. Following the tree lighting, the Rock Hill Christmas Parade will begin in front of Winthrop.
·The annual drop-in holiday reception is at the President’s House on the afternoon of Thursday, Dec. 12. A more formal email invitation will be coming to you shortly. Laura and I invite you into our home to enjoy good food and conversation with others members of the Winthrop community.
As the end of the semester kicks into high gear with other holiday happenings, final exams and Commencement, I want to thank you for your contributions to a successful fall semester. Please know that I value all that you do for Winthrop.
Sincerely,
Dan
