Dear Colleagues:
I would like to provide you with an update on how we are responding to what we learned
from the Employee Satisfaction Survey administered during the 2018 spring semester.
First, the Office of Human Resources hosted a supervisor training session on Thursday,
July 26th to equip supervisors with tools and techniques for providing feedback to
employees regarding their work performance, and how to motivate employees. Thank
you to the supervisors who attended the training session. Additional supervisor training
sessions will be offered during the upcoming academic year, so please be on the lookout
for those announcements.
Second, the results of the Employee Satisfaction Survey indicated specific areas of
concern that we need to learn more about. To that end, we have formed focus groups
that will meet in the next two weeks to discuss "training," "collaboration," and "work,
structure, and process." We invited staff members from various offices across campus
that represent an array of ages, lengths of service, and job types. In all, about
10 percent of staff will participate in the focus groups. Similar focus group discussions
will be scheduled for faculty during the fall semester.
The information from the discussions will help me and senior leadership determine
how best to move forward on addressing employee concerns in these areas. Thanks in
advance to the focus group participants for the part you will play in improving the
work environment for all employees.
I hope you enjoy the rest of the summer, and I look forward to seeing you at some
of the many scheduled events as we begin another exciting academic year.
Sincerely,
Dan
