Mandatory Event for Freshmen
Mandatory Event for New Transfer & Adult Students
Upperclassmen are encouraged to attend.

Make sure to wear your Blue Line t-shirt.

Convocation is a tradition dating to the presidency of Winthrop's founder, David Bancroft Johnson, and is held the first day of classes each new academic year. Today, President Daniel F. Mahony convenes members of the 134th new student class of freshmen and incoming transfer students to provide them with an official welcome to the campus community.

Consider wearing sunscreen as part of the day will be outside.

Ways to get to the Coliseum:

  • Walk: The Coliseum is about 1 mile from main campus. Just head straight down Eden Terrace from Winthrop. It's a nice walk through a shady Rock Hill neighborhood. Grab a friend to chat with on the way.
  • Drive: If you have a vehicle, drive to the Coliseum by travelling down Eden Terrace or Cherry Road. See below for parking information.
  • Ride: If you have a friend who has a car, ride with them! Help them to park in the correct place by viewing the information below.
  • Bike: Ride your bike or one of the yellow bikes from Rock Hill's bike share program. There are 2 bike hubs on campus: in front of Richardson/Wofford and in front of DIGS.
  • Take the Bus: Make your way to the Coliseum by taking one of the My Ride Buses. Please note that this is not the quickest way to the Coliseum, and you are expected to be on time.

Parking at the Coliseum:

  • All students should park on the west side of the Coliseum, across from the Tennis Complex.
  • All faculty/staff should park on the east side of the Coliseum.
