Spring Orientation

Spring Orientation is required for all new students whose first semester at Winthrop will be in Spring 2018. The purpose of Spring Orientation is to provide new students, both freshmen and transfer students, with the information, support and resources necessary to begin their academic journey. There are two Spring Orientation sessions, a half-day session for Transfer students in November 2017 and a full day session for Freshmen and Transfer students in January 2018.

Spring Orientation Dates

Session N: Friday, November 17, 2017 (Transfer Students Only)

Session A: Friday, January 5, 2018 (Freshmen and Transfer Students)

The January session begins at approximately 7:30 a.m. and ends around 5:00 p.m. All students are required to participate in all Orientation events on their Orientation day in order to register for classes.

Please note that both Spring Orientation sessions are not overnight sessions. Students living on campus in the spring will move into their assigned residence hall room in early January. Commuter students will return to their off-campus residences at the end of the Orientation day.

Spring Orientation Registration Information

All new students should register for Spring Orientation through their Enrollment Checklist. Students can also register parents and family members who would like to attend Spring Family Orientation. Please note that Spring Family Orientation is only offered at Session A in January. Session N in November does not have a Family Orientation component.

Placement Test Information

The Mathematics Placement Exam will not be administered at either Spring Orientation, and students required to take the Mathematics Placement Exam (based on major) should contact the Department of Mathematics before Orientation in order to do so.

The Foreign Language Placement Test will only be administered during the January Spring Orientation. Students in majors that require a foreign language who wish to continue in their study of French, German, or Spanish should plan to take the test. You do NOT need to take the test if you plan on starting a new language or are in a major that does not require a foreign language. If you are registered for the November Spring Orientation, you will need to contact the Department of World Languages & Cultures directly.
