Quick Facts

The Resident Students' Association has created a scholarship to honor John "JT" Timmons, assistant director of residence life.
Timmons served as advisor for RSA for 13 years.

ROCK HILL, S.C. - The Resident Students' Association of Winthrop recently created a student leadership scholarship in honor of John "JT" Timmons, assistant director for residence life who served as the association’s advisor from 1992-2005.

During that time, the association accomplished many goals, including regional "School of the Year" for the South Atlantic Affiliate of College and University Residence Halls. Timmons encouraged stability, continuous recognition of superior student effort and a steady increase in residence hall community building. The scholarship, the John "JT" Timmons Scholarship for Exemplary Leadership, was announced during the association’s annual banquet on April 23.

This scholarship is to be awarded to a current active association member who strives to improve the quality of the residential living experience in Winthrop’s residence halls. The first scholarship will be awarded in April 2007.

Timmons joined the Winthrop staff in 1991. He holds a B.S. in education and a M.S., both from Miami University in Ohio.
