SBDC Employee Passes Away

ROCK HILL, SOUTH CAROLINA – Winthrop University Small Business Development Center’s Walter “Mike” Bell has passed away. He was 68.

Bell, of Columbia, worked as the area manager for the Small Business Development Center in Florence, South Carolina. He had worked for Winthrop since 2005. A successful businessman, he worked with entrepreneurs and small business owners to help them develop and grow their businesses.

He spent his career in sales traveling for John Deere, Shakespeare and Silstar before joining the Winthrop community. He is survived by his wife, daughters and other family members.

Bell’s service will be held on Sunday, Aug. 19, at 3 p.m. at Gateway Baptist Church in Ballentine-Irmo. Visitation will follow. Arrangements are being handled by Temples-Halloran Funeral Home in Columbia.
