ROCK HILL, SOUTH CAROLINA — Middle-school students and K-12 teachers interested in technology skills are invited to learn about 3D printing, programming, cybersecurity and more at Winthrop University’s Instructional Technology Center (ITC) this summer.

The ITC will host three camps beginning in July:

Technology and Art
July 9-13 or July 23-27, 9 a.m.-12 p.m.

Explore the relationship between art and technology with this camp. Campers will design an item for 3D printing (and get to take it home!), create recycled art from computer parts, use robots to create art tools and projects, work with electronic circuits and green tools to make stop-motion videos and play with Bloxels, a tech toy.

Block-Based Programming Challenges
July 9-13, 1-4 p.m.

Coding robots known as Ozobot, circuits, mBots and Ollies are just a few of the fun toys and tools campers will work with in this camp.

Introduction to Cybersecurity
July 23-27, 1-4 p.m.

Cybersecurity is an ever-growing field, which makes this camp perfect for everyone. Campers will cover online safety, networking basics, cryptography and digital forensics.

“Our goal this year with the camps is to just have fun and learn a little more about programming and cybersecurity,” said Joyce Camp, ITC director. “We want campers to leave and want to come back again next year. We want teachers to leave with the excitement to use these tools in their classroom.”

Camp also hopes teachers will return to campus throughout the year for ITC professional development opportunities.

The cost is $100 per session for students and $95 for children of Winthrop employees; or $200 for all day ($190 for children of Winthrop employees). For teachers, the cost is $25 per session or $40 for all day. The cost does not include lunch.

To sign up, visit the online registration site (see the teacher registration link here). Upon acceptance, campers will be asked to fill out some forms. Payment is due no less than two weeks before the selected camp’s start date.
