Gubernatorial Debate Set for April 19 in the Withers Building

ROCK HILL, SOUTH CAROLINA – Winthrop University and the S.C. League of Women Voters will host a gubernatorial debate on April 19 on the university’s campus.

The event will start at 7 p.m. in Plowden Auditorium, located on the third floor of Withers/W.T.S. Building.

The confirmed candidates are: Republicans Lieutenant Governor Kevin Bryant and former Lieutenant Governor Yancey McGill; Democrats Phil Noble and Marguerite Willis; Independent Philip Mathews Cheney; and American Party candidate Martin Barry.

Holley Ulbrich, professor emerita of economics at Clemson University and co-president of the state league, will moderate.

The April 19 event at Winthrop is free and open to the public, according to Political Science Professor Karen Kedrowski, director of the Center for Civic Learning. However, tickets are required for entry into Plowden Auditorium. Register here:

Overflow seating will be available on the fourth floor atrium and will not require a ticket. Public parking will be in the Meadows Parking lot, located on Charlotte Avenue.
