Pianist Jerico Vasquez to Perform at Winthrop Oct. 2

ROCK HILL, SOUTH CAROLINA - Pianist Jerico Vasquez will present a guest artist recital on Monday, Oct. 2, at 7:30 pm in Frances May Barnes Recital Hall at Winthrop University. The program will feature the works of Schumann, Chopin and George Crumb. The concert is free, open to the general public and an approved cultural event.

Winner of the University of California – Santa Barbara Concerto Competition, Vasquez has received career grants from the Pillsbury Foundation, the Santa Barbara Performing Arts Foundation and the Léni Fe Bland Foundation. He was also a recipient of Ojai Festival’s prestigious Charlotte and Alvin Bronstein Award, Capitol Record’s Nat King Cole Memorial Award and the University of California Regents Scholarship. He is a member of Pi Kappa Lambda Music Honorary Society.

Currently, Vasquez is the artist in residence/associate professor of music and coordinator of the keyboard program at Shorter University. He maintains an active performing career, playing both solo and collaborative recitals. Recent performances include numerous solo recitals in the southeast United States and the Philippines; a concerto performance with the Rome Symphony Orchestra; collaborative performances with the Balkan String Quartet and vocalists Ann Cravero, Cynthia Wohlschlager, Indra Thomas, Deborah Popham, Eric McCluskey, Rianne Marcum, and Chuck Chandler; and with pianist Rebekah Jordan-Miller. He has also presented workshops and lectures, and has frequently served as an adjudicator in many local and regional festivals and competitions.

As a pedagogue, Vasquez has been an active member of the Music Teachers National Association and the Georgia Music Teachers Association. He has served as president of the Houston Music Teachers Association and the Bayou City Federated Music Club, and vice president of the Rome Music Teachers Association.

Tickets are not required for this event. Free parking is available in the gravel lot at the corner of Alumni Drive and Founders Lane.
