ROCK HILL, SOUTH CAROLINA – Defending U.S. Disc Golf Champion Paul McBeth returns to this year’s Oct. 5-8 championship at Winthrop University in hopes for a repeat of last year’s winning performance.

Last year was a special one for McBeth who not only won the title at Winthrop but also completed Disc Golf’s Grand Slam. The Huntington Beach, California, resident is a four-time World Champion.

Other top players to watch during the week on the course around the Winthrop Coliseum include: Ricky Wysocki, the 2016 World Champion from Fort Mill, South Carolina; Ken Climo of Clearwater, Florida, and Barry Schultz of Louisburg, North Carolina, both of whom are multiple winners of World and U.S. championships. More than 90 participants are expected to compete.

In addition to the U.S. Championship title, there also is a race for the Disc Golf World Tour Points title, which is given at the end of what has been a year of globe-trotting for disc golf professionals. McBeth is in the lead, followed by Wysocki and Karl Johan Nybo of Denmark.

This is the 18th consecutive year York County has hosted disc golf’s most prestigious event on what is dubbed the “Gold Course.” Volunteers travel from around the country to help put on the championship.
