Two Winthrop Graduates Picked for Winthrop University Board of Trustees

ROCK HILL, SOUTH CAROLINA – S.C. legislators elected two Winthrop University graduates this week to the institution’s Board of Trustees.

Janet Smalley `72 of Walhalla, South Carolina, was re-elected to the Third Congressional District seat, while Shane Duncan `98 of Greenville, South Carolina, was elected to the Fourth Congressional District seat replacing Scott Talley who did not run.

Their six-year terms will expire on June 30, 2022.

Duncan is the business development manager for M33 Integrated Solutions, which is a Greenville, S.C., based logistics technology and lead logistics provider. Active at his alma mater, Duncan is a member of the Winthrop Alumni Executive Board and has served on the Rock Hill/York County Alumni Club Board, the Alumni Association nominating committee and with the Winthrop Alumni in Admissions Volunteer group. He was recognized in 2006 by Winthrop with the Most Outstanding Young Alumni Award.

Smalley has served as a Winthrop Board of Trustees member since 2004 and now is an Executive Committee member and chair of the Committee on Compensation. She holds degrees from Winthrop and Clemson universities and has been named Teacher of the Year six times. A native of Belton, South Carolina, Smalley is a former Walhalla High School curriculum coordinator and Oconee School District instructional specialist, and has served as a U.S. Department of Education secondary school evaluator.
