New Agape Involvement Award Promotes Student Basketball Attendance, Giving Back to Community

Quick Facts

The Agape Foundation, Inc. created the Agape Involvement Award.
The $6,000 award is intended to increase student attendance at Winthrop basketball games.
The funds will be given to a non-profit organization of each respective winning organization’s choice.

ROCK HILL, SOUTH CAROLINA – Winthrop University students have another innovative incentive – in addition to the Game Changers scholarship program – to attend home men’s and women’s basketball games, and give back at the same time.

The Agape Foundation, Inc., a non-profit organization founded in 2004, recently created the Agape Involvement Award. The $6,000 award is intended to increase student attendance at Winthrop basketball games.

The purpose of the fund is to reward the three Winthrop student organizations with highest attendance at basketball games during the 2015-16 season. The first place student organization will win $3,000; the second place organization will win $2,000; and the third place organization will win $1,000. The funds will be given to a non-profit organization of each respective winning organization’s choice.

Student attendance will be monitored and winning groups determined by QR code tracking at all home basketball games.

“Agape prides itself in community engagement and involvement, and understands the importance of non-profits in providing services and opportunities for the local community. Agape is extremely proud to sponsor this award,” said Lisa Livingston, executive director of the Agape Foundation, Inc.

Winthrop President Dan Mahony expressed appreciation for Agape Foundation’s involvement in creating this new promotion.

“We’re very pleased that Agape Foundation established this new award,” said Mahony. “It provides incentive for members of our student organizations to support our basketball teams and also places a high priority on giving back to others. It’s a win-win for all involved. I’m grateful to Board of Trustees member Scott Middleton for initiating this award.”

The first Agape Involvement Award will be presented at the conclusion of the men’s and women’s basketball seasons.
