ROCK HILL, SOUTH CAROLINA – The South Carolina Democratic Party (SCDP) has chosen three Winthrop alumni as 2015-16 James E. Clyburn Political Fellows: Keisha Adams ’03, Jason Allen ’06 and James Jeter ’10.

Adams, Allen and Jeter were among the 40 South Carolina residents selected as recipients of the new fellowship, which aims to “develop the next generation of leadership and talent in the South Carolina Democratic Party,” according to SCDP Chair Jaime Harrison.

Learn more about the Winthrop alumni fellowship recipients:

  • Adams, of Richland County, earned her B.S. in business administration at Winthrop and her Master of Public Health degree at the University of South Carolina.
  • Allen, a York County resident, earned his B.A. in political science and history with a minor in social sciences. He graduated the Charlotte School of Law in 2013. He opened his law firm, the Carolina Law Center, in Rock Hill in 2014.
  • Jeter works as resource development director for United Way of York County. The York County resident earned his B.S.W. at Winthrop.

Fellowship recipients will participate in five three-day seminars/training sessions. The program launch marks the first step in the SCDP’s effort to prepare talented leaders to run for office, manage successful campaigns and become the next generation of county party leadership, explained Harrison.

Clyburn is the U.S. Representative for South Carolina's 6th congressional district, serving since 1993, and is the Assistant Democratic Leader since 2011. He was previously House Majority Whip, serving in that post from 2007 to 2011.
