Fill Your Calendar With These Holiday Events at Winthrop

ROCK HILL, SOUTH CAROLINA — They say the holidays are the most wonderful time of the year. With so many events during this holiday season at Winthrop University—from Kwanzaa celebrations to candy cane giveaways to our annual Christmas Tree lighting—we tend to agree.

Here’s a list of upcoming holiday events:

Tuesday, Dec. 1:

Kicking It With Candy Canes
11 a.m., Scholars Walk
Alpha Delta Pi will pass out candy canes to spread cheer to the Winthrop campus and to wish students good luck on their final exams.

Kwanzaa Celebration
7 p.m., Richardson Ballroom, DiGiorgio Campus Center
The special guest will be the Healing Force, a family of artists who celebrate African culture through storytelling, drumming, music and dancing. Cultural event.

Ensemble Series: Winthrop Collegiate Choir
7:30 p.m., Frances May Barnes Recital Hall. Cultural event.

Thursday, Dec. 3:

Pictures With Santa and Create Your Own Ornament

11 a.m., DiGiorgio Campus Center lobby
Join us in the DiGiorgio Campus Center to snap a photo with Santa and DIY your own ornament.

Ensemble Series: Winthrop Symphonic Band & Winthrop Wind Symphony

7:30 p.m., Byrnes Auditorium. Cultural event.

Friday, Dec. 4:

GEM Holiday Sale

noon-5 p.m.

DiGiorgio Campus Center main lobby

Winthrop Christmas Tree Lighting
6 p.m., Tillman front lawn

Ensemble Series: Senior Choreography Showcase
Friday, Dec. 4-Saturday, Dec. 5, 8 p.m.; Sunday, Dec. 6, 2 p.m.
Johnson Theatre
Features the choreographic talents of senior dance majors
Tickets: $5 w/ Winthrop ID, $10 general admission

Annual Holiday Pottery sale
Noon-6 p.m., G-10 Rutledge Building

Saturday, Dec. 5:

Special Event: Winthrop Opera Theatre Presents “The Ugly Duckling”
10:30 a.m., Frances May Barnes Recital Hall
Winthrop Opera Theatre will perform this beloved children’s opera.

Jazz & Jambalaya Gala
7 p.m., McBryde Hall
Tickets: $20 per person, $35 per couple and $150 per table

Monday, Dec. 7:

Winter Holidays Around the World
11 a.m., Thomson Conference Room
Learn about holidays in different cultures at this special presentation. Afterward, enter a raffle for some holiday treats.

Ensemble Series: Carolinas Wind Orchestra
7:30 p.m., Byrnes Auditorium

Yule Ball
8 p.m., McBryde Hall
Winter semi-formal/fundraiser for Alpha Psi Omega based off of the Yule Ball from Harry Potter. Food, music and dancing. Suggested donation of $5 or a donation to the toy drive.
