ROCK HILL, SOUTH CAROLINA – On Oct. 24, millions of volunteers across the United States will join together for the same goal: improving the lives of others.

Winthrop University students will be included in those millions of volunteers for Make a Difference Day.

The Center for Career and Civic Engagement is recruiting volunteers for several projects throughout York County. Laura Foster, volunteer and community service program director, also encourages students to talk to her about developing their own Make a Difference Day projects.

From raising heart health awareness to gardening to helping others, here’s how you can help Winthrop do its part for Make a Difference Day. All events are Oct. 24 unless otherwise noted:

*Old Town Zombie Crawl 5K Run/Walk & Fun Run – The city of Rock Hill’s Old Town Zombie Crawl will raise awareness of heart health. Sponsored by the Heart2Heart Foundation, volunteer opportunities will vary from registration, the Get Fit Zone, working the race, make-up team and more. All events will take place along Main Street in downtown Rock Hill and begin at noon.

*Rock Hill Educational Community Garden – Volunteers will build and fill plots, distribute mulch between plots and assist in general upkeep. The garden is located across from Rock Hill District Stadium. Volunteer time is 10 a.m.-noon.

*St. Vincent de Paul Fall Festival & Halloween Carnival—There will be several volunteer opportunities for Saint Anne Catholic Church’s annual event. It begins at 10 a.m. at St. Anne Parish Life Center, 1694 Bird Street.

*Fall Carnival at Agape Senior – Student group Serving Others and Reflecting (SOAR) will sponsor this carnival on Friday, Oct. 23. More details will be available soon.
