Winthrop Announces Activities for National Disability Employment Awareness Month in October

 This year's theme is "My Disability Is One Part of Who I Am." This announcement comes as the United States celebrates the 25th anniversary of the Americans with Disabilities Act on July 26, 2015.
 Winthrop's Office of Disability Services, led by Program Director Tina Vires, will sponsor activities such as an “Impaired Perceptions” presentation, an Accessibility Fair, and a Photo Voice exhibit, complete with a student panel reception and discussion, in order to highlight campus engagement in fostering a disability-friendly work culture.

ROCK HILL, SOUTH CAROLINA - Winthrop University will participate in National Disability Employment Awareness Month, an annual awareness campaign that takes place each October to educate about disability employment issues and to celebrate the many contributions of American workers with disabilities.

This year's theme is "My Disability Is One Part of Who I Am." This announcement comes as the United States celebrates the 25th anniversary of the Americans with Disabilities Act on July 26, 2015.

Winthrop's Office of Disability Services, led by Program Director Tina Vires, will sponsor activities such as an “Impaired Perceptions” presentation, an Accessibility Fair, and a Photo Voice exhibit, complete with a student panel reception and discussion, in order to highlight campus engagement in fostering a disability-friendly work culture.

"Winthrop University is proud to be a part of this year's National Disability Employment Awareness Month," said President Dan Mahony. "We want to spread the important message that a strong workforce is one inclusive of the skills and talents of all individuals, including individuals with disabilities."

Employers and employees in all industries can learn more about how to participate in National Disability Employment Awareness Month and ways they can promote its message by visiting the Department of Labor's Office of Disability Employment Policy website.
