ROCK HILL, SOUTH CAROLINA -- Truffaldino is hungry.

That’s the driving force behind Carlo Goldoni’s "The Servant of Two Masters," translated and adapted by Jeffery Hatcher and Paolo Landi.

Shakespeare Carolina will present "The Servant of Two Masters" beginning this Thursday at 8 p.m. the Winthrop University Amphitheatre.

Truffaldino’s appetite gets him into trouble throughout this updated 18th-century commedia dell’arte play. Always complaining of an empty stomach, Truffaldino sees the opportunity to earn double meals by serving not only his master, Beatrice, but a second master, Beatrice’s lover, Florindo. His mission: do both of their bidding without getting caught. Throw in a cast of wacky lovers, rich nobles and crazy chefs, and you have a recipe for a hysterical disaster.

Managing Artistic Director and the Department of Music's Chris O’Neill directs the play.

This production marks the fifth full summer residency at Winthrop for Shakespeare Carolina. Past productions include “Antigone,” “A Midsummer Night’s Dream,” “The Tempest” and “The Taming of the Shrew,” along with several others.

Show times are 8 p.m. July 16-18 and July 22-25. Tickets are $5 and are available online.

So bring your beach chairs, blankets, bug repellent, snacks and a drink or two and enjoy "The Servant of Two Masters."

Shakespeare Carolina is a culturally diverse organization that promotes color and gender blind casting. Shakespeare Carolina seeks to promote the universality of the classical canon to audiences that may not otherwise be exposed to the works of world’s greatest playwright. It is Shakespeare Carolina’s goal to grow into one of the region’s premiere cultural institutions, providing educational outreach as well as educational, technical and artistic opportunities for all segments of York County’s population.
