ROCK HILL, SOUTH CAROLINA - Winthrop University Board of Trustees members unanimously approved a resolution to endorse the Knowledge Park initiative during the June 19 quarterly meeting.

The Knowledge Park concept was developed in 2012 as public and private leaders joined together to implement the redevelopment of Rock Hill’s urban core from Winthrop, through what was the Textile Corridor, and into downtown. The economic development initiative is designed to bring high-tech businesses and high-paying jobs to Rock Hill.

Knowledge Park is expected to stimulate significant economic activity and will complement the college town atmosphere in proximity to the Winthrop campus with an array of housing, retail and restaurant options. “We anticipate that Knowledge Park will add to the quality of life for our university and the broader community,” said Kathy Bigham, chair of the board.

The initiative will create new opportunities for Winthrop to strengthen its educational mission, to enrich learning and career opportunities for students, and to build supportive relationships with technology businesses throughout the region.
