Learning Center Professionals Gathered at Winthrop to Learn Tutoring Tips

ROCK HILL, SOUTH CAROLINA - The Winthrop Academic Success Center hosted a June 12 conference for learning center professionals, advocates, and tutors in the Carolinas and Georgia in the DiGiorgio Campus Center.

The theme for this second annual conference was “Soaring to Success: Reaching New Heights with our Centers, Staff, and Students.”

More than 100 participants attended the conference sponsored by the South Carolina College Learning Center Association, an affiliate of the National College Learning Center Association, according to organizer Michelle Wolf, director of Winthrop's Academic Success Center.

Guest speaker Page Keller, director of the Center for Excellence in Peer Education at the College of Charleston, talked about initiating the CEPE-Center for Excellence in Peer Education at the College of Charleston in 2011. It trains more than 300 students to be peer educators, and serves around 9,000 students on campus through peer-led programs and services.
