Phi Beta Lambda Captures Top Prizes at State Leadership Conference

 Students who placed first or second will compete at the National Leadership Conference in Chicago, Illinois, this July.

ROCK HILL, SOUTH CAROLINA -- Winthrop University's chapter of the Future Business Leaders of America-Phi Beta Lambda once again captured top honors at the State Leadership Conference in Charleston, South Carolina.

Seven of the 10 Winthrop students who attended placed first or second in their respective competitions. They will compete in the national division this July at the National Leadership Conference in Chicago, Illinois. Student attendees included:

*Deviona June
*Demarrios Brown
*Angel Ortiz
*Shanavia James
*Micahla Thomas
*Megan Jenkins
*Nicholas Cunningham (1st in improptu speaking)
*Brandon Sewell (1st in organizational behavior and leadership)

Cunningham founded Winthrop's chapter in 2013. In its first year, the group captured multiple prizes at the State Leadership Conference. He said he is proud of how the chapter has grown.

"We have had really involved members this year, and I feel like our success at this conference really allows us to end the year on a positive note," he said. "I am honored to have represented Winthrop on the state level serving as the state president and know that Winthrop's chapter of Phi Beta Lambda will continue to do great things on the local, state and national level."
