ROCK HILL, SOUTH CAROLINA – The Optimist Club of Rock Hill has named Cpl. Chris Parks the 2014-15 Officer of the Year.

Parks, who joined the Winthrop University Police Department in 2003, will be recognized at a May 12 Optimist Club dinner honoring his achievement.

Parks earned the special designation for several reasons: Parks has been a Rape Aggression Defense (RAD) instructor for the past five years and a member of the Bike Patrol unit for the past eight years. He has also worked on the Drug Enforcement Unit and the Alcohol Enforcement Unit.

Notably, Parks was selected for and participated in the national Advanced Law Enforcement Rapid Response Training (ALERRT), an active shooter training program.

Each summer, Parks also volunteers to help with the annual Bike Week event in Myrtle Beach.

Chief Frank Zebedis noted Parks has done an “outstanding job” with his dedication to his many commitments.

The Optimist Club honors officers from Winthrop’s Police Department, the Rock Hill Police Department, the York County Sheriff’s Office, the South Carolina Highway Patrol and the South Carolina Highway Transport Police.
