Winthrop to Light It Up Blue for Autism Awareness Day

Quick Facts

The lights will be in honor of the Light It Up Blue campaign to raise awareness of autism.

ROCK HILL, SOUTH CAROLINA -- Winthrop University will "Light It Up Blue" the evening of Thursday, April 2 in honor of Autism Awareness Day.

The exterior lights of Tillman Hall, the Eagle sculpture and the main university entrance on Oakland Avenue will have a blue gel cover placed on them, bathing parts of campus in a blue glow.

April 2 marks National Autism Day, adopted by the United Nations in 2007 as a way to bring awareness to both autism and those affected by it. In addition to the blue lights, the local Chrysalis Autism Center is encouraging businesses and individuals to wear blue items of clothing as well.
