Fifth Annual York County Green Business Conference Scheduled on March 5

ROCK HILL, SOUTH CAROLINA – Winthrop University will host the fifth annual York County Green Business Conference on March 5.

The conference is set for 7:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the Richardson Ballroom of the DiGiorgio Campus Center. It is designed to give business people, engineers and architects ideas about innovative and sustainable techniques, and emerging efficient technologies and practices.

Panel discussions will focus on local non-residential energy incentives, promoting business sustainability efforts and the next steps in sustainability.

The panel discussion on “Energy Saving Options for Business and Industry” will feature Larry Airey, Duke Energy; Brent Clinton, York Electric Cooperative; and Debbie Garrick ’87, ‘89, city of Rock Hill.

The “Ask the Expert” roundtable discussions will focus on:
-“Waste Reduction and Recycling:” with Pratt Industries and Mumford Industries
-“Solar Legislation:” with ReNu Energy Solutions and Duke Energy
-“Employee Participation, How to Engage Your Employees:” with Domtar, city of Rock Hill and The Rock Hill School District
-“Stormwater Issue: Staying in Compliance and Taking the Next Step:” with Bartlett Tree, Catawba Riverkeeper Foundation and York County Environmental Compliance

Chris Johnson ’99, Winthrop’s sustainability coordinator, said this annual event has become an important opportunity for York County businesses and residents to learn about emerging innovative technologies and sustainable strategies that can simultaneously advance economic vitality, ecological integrity and social welfare. “This is a commitment Winthrop University exemplifies through practice,” he added.
