ROCK HILL, SOUTH CAROLINA — Winthrop University physical education students made their mark at the annual South Carolina Association for Physical Education, Recreation and Dance conference last month.

The Physical Education Majors club took first place in the Superstars competition, competing against other schools across the state in several sports, games and activities. Adam Mullis, president of the club, said many people put in so much hard work to make the victory possible. For the competition, students took a written physical education test before engaging in a fitness card game, volleyball, ultimate football, soccer, golf and more.

All Winthrop students played hard and were good sports, said Mullis, of Columbia. He added that Winthrop has an amazing physical education program.

“It was great to win Superstars,” he said, “but really the best part about the conference was getting to know other future professionals and learning how to be a better P.E. teacher at the conference.”

Seth Jenny
, the club’s advisor and assistant professor of physical education, said he is extremely proud of the physical education majors who attended the conference.

“Winthrop has been well represented in both number and character,” he said. “Attendees of the professional conference can see as demonstrated in our strength in numbers and athletic prowess how Winthrop is at the forefront of physical education in South Carolina.”

The Physical Education Majors club is open to all students enrolled in the P.E. Teacher Education program. The club sponsors numerous events throughout the year, including Hoops for Hearts and other fundraisers.
