THANKSgiving Challenge Exceeds Goal, Collects 517 Gifts in 48 Hours

 In 48 hours, the THANKSgiving Challenge collected 517 gifts, raising $33,687 in support of student scholarships.
 In addition, Family Trust Federal Credit Union will supply $10,000 through a five-year pledge.


ROCK HILL, SOUTH CAROLINA – Overwhelming response from Winthrop University students, faculty, staff, alumni and supporters ensures that November is a season to give thanks, particularly for student scholarship recipients.

The 48-hour Winthrop THANKSgiving Challenge, which kicked off at 9 a.m. Nov. 18 and ended Nov. 20, has raised $33,687 in support of student scholarships. The holiday-themed endeavor garnered 517 gifts, surpassing the challenge goal of 480 gifts in 48 hours. All gifts support the Winthrop Stands Initiative, which focuses on granting more students access to the exemplary Winthrop education.

With Family Trust Federal Credit Union's $10,000 donation, the challenge's total impact is $43,687. Family Trust, located in York County, partnered in the THANKSgiving Challenge in an effort to raise invaluable student scholarship dollars.

Acting President Debra Boyd noted, with Thanksgiving around the corner, it is an appropriate time to say thanks and express gratitude to Winthrop’s generous supporters who give to ensure students’ successes.

“The results of the challenge demonstrate the generosity of the Winthrop faculty and staff, students, alumni and friends who have taken an active role in our students’ bright futures. We thank you for your continued commitment to Winthrop.”
