Quick Facts

Students living in South Carolina have until Oct. 4 to register to vote in the upcoming election.
Web link provided for national voter registration form.

ROCK HILL, S.C. - As the Nov. 4 election approaches, the Department of Political Science has developed a set of “Frequently Asked Questions” for students wanting to vote in national, state and local races.

It is available by following the link on the department’s Web page at The deadline to register to vote in South Carolina is Oct. 4.

Most of the information is relevant only to South Carolina and/or York County but there is a link to a “national voter registration form,” which is accepted by most but not all states, and links to a list of state election agencies. Both of these pieces of information are targeted specifically to out-of-state students.

There are also links to the South Carolina voter registration form and absentee ballot application. In South Carolina, county election commissions must receive absentee ballots by 7 p.m. on Nov. 4.

Faculty members developed the “Frequently Asked Questions” in consultation with personnel in Student Affairs and the chair of the York County Election Commission.

Winthrop will be closed on Election Day.
