Quick Facts

Winthrop's annual holiday event will not be held this year.
Dance and vocal groups will perform at ChristmasVille in downtown Rock Hill on Dec. 4-7.

Winthrop's Christmas tree will be illuminated from Dec. 1-Jan. 4.
ROCK HILL, S.C. - Winthrop's traditional holiday event, Festival of Carols, will be cancelled this year because of renovations to Byrnes Auditorium and Tillman Hall.

The annual festival, put on by the Department of Music in Byrnes, featured Winthrop instrumental and vocal groups, as well as local elementary, middle and high school vocal groups. Byrnes's electrical infrastructure, lighting and rigging systems have been under repair since the auditorium's organ was sent away last year for renovations. The organ is now back on campus but workers will need several weeks to install the organ's more than 6,000 pipes.

Also, Winthrop's administration building, Tillman Hall, remains surrounded by scaffolding due to roof repairs and a window restoration project. Tillman was typically the scene for President Anthony DiGiorgio to light the Christmas tree on the front campus.

The Winthrop tree, lit each year since 1935, will be illuminated from Dec. 1-Jan. 4. Winthrop vocal and dance groups will perform at Christmasville, held Dec. 4-7 in downtown Rock Hill.
