Pictures with Santa, Kwanzaa Celebration and More Kick Off Winthrop's Holiday Season

 The holiday's first event, Pictures with Santa, will be at 11 a.m. for faculty, staff and students on Nov. 21 in the DiGiorgio Campus Center lobby.

ROCK HILL, S.C. — The annual lighting of the Christmas Tree on the Tillman Hall lawn is a highlight every holiday season at Winthrop University. Between gift ideas and the chance to meet Santa, Winthrop offers several other holiday events this year.

Pictures with Santa
Nov. 21
10-11 a.m., children’s photos with Santa.
11 a.m.-noon, faculty, staff and Winthrop students photos with Santa.
DiGiorgio Campus Center lobby. Sponsored by DSU.
He’s making a list and checking it twice. Find out which list you’re on when you take a photo with him at this free event.

Kwanzaa Celebration
Nov. 21, 7 p.m.
Dina’s Place, DiGiorgio Campus Center
The Healing Force, a family of artists that celebrates African culture through storytelling, drumming, music and dancing, will be the special guest at this event. It is a free cultural and global event.

Senior Choreography Showcase
Nov. 22-23 at 8 p.m.; Nov. 23-24 at 2 p.m.
Johnson Theatre
The seven dance pieces in this showcase are choreographed by senior dance majors and cover all types of dance from contemporary modern to jazz to ballet. Cultural event.
Tickets are $8 with Winthrop ID, $15 for public.

24th annual Holiday Pottery Sale
Dec. 6, noon-6 p.m.
Room G-10, Rutledge Building
Stock up on your gift shopping at the pottery sale, which will feature work from Professor of Fine Arts Jim Connell and ceramics students. This is part of ChristmasVille, the city of Rock Hill’s days-long Christmas celebration.

Lighting of the Christmas Tree
Dec. 6, 6 p.m.
Annual lighting of the Christmas Tree on the Tillman lawn, featuring Christmas music and refreshments. The lighting precedes the ChristmasVille parade.

A Celebration of Carols: York County Choral Society Concert
Dec. 8, 4 p.m.
Byrnes Auditorium
Director Katherine Kinsey brings the spirit of the season alive with a selection of carols.
Tickets are $15 for adults, $10 for senior citizens/Winthrop faculty and staff, $5 for other students and free for Winthrop students with identification.
