Student Dietetic Association Organizes On-Campus Farmer's Market

Quick Facts

The farmer's market will be 10 a.m.-3 p.m. on the DiGiorgio Campus Center Green.
Fifty percent of all profits will go toward local charity Project H.O.P.E.

ROCK HILL, S.C. — When the members of Winthrop University’s Student Dietetic Association recently surveyed their peers in Wofford Hall, one of Winthrop’s residence halls, they learned that eating healthy food was a main concern for students, said member Katy Grier.

Grier, a human nutrition major from Waxhaw, N.C., along with her fellow students in the association, decided to organize an on-campus Farmer’s Market, which will take place on Tuesday, Nov. 19, from 10 a.m.-3 p.m. on the DiGiorgio Campus Center Green.

More than 10 York County vendors will sell their goods at the market, with 50 percent of all profits going to local charity Project H.O.P.E. (Helping Other People Effectively). The non-profit organization provides food and financial assistance to those in crisis.

In addition to the produce vendors, there will also be homemade items including knitted scarves. The event also will feature live music from on-campus talent.

“We want to bring healthful food to the campus and keep it very campus-centric,” Grier said of the event.
