Bachelor of Science in Human Development and Family Studies (formerly Family and Consumer Sciences)

Human Development and Family Studies is available to students pursuing Bachelor of Science degree in the Richard W. Riley of the College of Education at Winthrop University. This degree does not lead to teacher licensure but does prepare graduates for human and consumer service careers where children and families are the focus.

 

Minor in Human Development and Family Studies

The minor consists of 19 credit hours as follows:

  • HDFS 101 (1) Intro to Human Development and Family Studies
  • HDFS 350 (3) Parenting Through the Lifespan
  • HDFS 450 (3) Family Stress and Resilience
  • HDFS 501 (3) Residential Technology
  • HDFS 502 (3) Family Resource Management

and two courses from

  • FACS 211 (3) Product Construction and Design
  • NUTR 221 (3) Human Nutrition
  • PYSC 206 (3) Developmental Psychology
  • SOCL 305 (3) Marriage and the Family
