World Languages Programs

Bachelor of Arts in Modern Languages

Students may choose FrenchSpanish, or Certification as School Teacher K-12 with a French or Spanish emphasis.

Minor in French

The minor in French consists of 18 semester hours of FREN at the 200-level and above, at least 6 hours of which must be numbered above 299.  The required courses are 

  • FREN 201 (3) Intermediate French I
     
  • FREN 202 (3) Intermediate French II
     
  • FREN 250 (3) Intermed Composition and Conversation
     

May include the following as electives:

  • MLAN 330 A (1-6) French Language and Cultural Studies Abroad
     
  • MLAN 530 A (1-6) French Language and Cultural Studies Abroad
     

(FREN 101-102, or the equivalent, are prerequisites for all other FREN courses; however, they may not be applied toward fulfillment of requirements in the minor.)

Minor in German

The minor in German consists of 18 semester hours in GERM at the 200-level and above, at least 6 hours of which must be numbered above 299.  The required courses are 

  • GERM 201 (3) Intermediate German I
     
  • GERM 202 (3) Intermediate German II

(GERM 101-102, or the equivalent, are prerequisites for all other GERM courses; however, they may not be applied toward fulfillment of requirements in the minor.)

Minor in Spanish

The minor in Spanish consists of 18 semester hours in SPAN at the 200-level and above, at least 6 hours of which must be numbered above 299.  The required courses are 

  • SPAN 201 (3) Intermediate Spanish I
     
  • SPAN 202 (3) Intermediate Spanish II
  • SPAN 250 (3) Intermediate Composition and Conversation

May include the following as electives:

  • MLAN 330 B (1-6) Spanish Language and Cultural Studies Abroad
     
  • MLAN 530 B (1-6) Spanish Language and Cultural Studies Abroad

Minor in Spanish for Law and the Helping Professions

The Minor in Spanish for Law and the Helping Professions aims to provide students of law, criminology, sociology, and the other helping professions with a firm foundation in written and oral Spanish, with special attention to the linguistic tools specific to their professional needs.

 The minor consists of 18 hours:

  • SPAN 201 (3) Intermediate Spanish I
  • SPAN 205 (3)  Intermediate Spanish for Law and the Helping Professions
  • SPAN 250 (3)  Intermediate Composition and Conversation
  • SPAN 305 (3) Advanced Spanish for Law and the Helping Professions
  • Six additional hours in SPAN numbered above 299.
