Social Work Programs

Bachelor of Social Work

The Bachelor of Social Work Program offers a generalist practice focus. Graduates are prepared to utilize the person and environment construct in working with individuals, families, groups, and communities. Generalist practice social workers value diversity, employ the use of professional ethics, and work to improve social and economic conditions.

 

Minor in Child and Youth Well-Being

The minor in Child and Youth Well-being is open to all undergraduate students, including Social Work majors. This minor is designed for students interested in exploring basic domains of child and youth well-being, and will help prepare students who plan to pursue a career working with children, youth, and/or families. It consists of 18 credit hours:

  • SCWK 523 (3) Families & Children: Policies & Services 
  • SWK 533 (3) Families & Children: Practice & Trends 
  • SCWK 306 (3) Working with Multi-Cultural Populations  OR PSYC/AAMS 320 (3) Racial, Cultural and Ethnic Influences on Identity Development
  • 9 hours from the following list of electives, 6 hours of which must be above the 299 level and at least two designators beyond SCWK must be included.

Minor in Social Welfare

The minor in social welfare is primarily intended for students who plan to enter a related field or who are simply interested in the field of social work because of its significance to modern society. The minor is not a professional degree program. It consists of 15 semester hours of social work to include

  • SCWK 200 (3) Introduction to Social Work 
  • SCWK 305 (3) Human Behavior in the Social Environment            
  • SCWK 306 (3) Working with Multi-Cultural Populations
  • SCWK 321 (3) Social Welfare as a Social Institution
  • 3 hours of SCWK electives


Master of Social Work

The Master of Social Work Program offers a concentration in empowerment practice. Graduates are prepared to use empowerment-based theories and methods for assessment, intervention, and evaluation with individuals, families, groups, and communities. Empowerment practice affirms the strengths and capabilities of people, values human diversity, and promotes social justice.

 

Online Master of Social Work
 

The online Master of Social Work program offers a concentration in empowerment practice. Graduates are prepared to use empowerment-based theories and methods for assessment, intervention, and evaluation with individuals, families, groups, and communities. Empowerment practice affirms the strengths and capabilities of people, values human diversity, and promotes social justice.
