Minor in Social Sciences

The minor in social sciences consists of at least 18 semester hours of courses in ANTH, ECON, GEOG, HIST, PLSC, PSYC, or SOCL to include at least 6 hours in courses numbered above 299. A student may not include in the social sciences minor any courses with the designator of the major or majors. To receive credit for the social sciences minor, students must also complete a course dealing with social sciences methodology:

  • ANTH 341 (3) Fieldwork in Cultural Anthropology 
  • ANTH 345 (3) Fieldwork in Archaeology
  • GEOG 320 (3) Remote Sensing of the Environment 
  • HIST 300 (3) Historiography and Methodology
  • MCOM 301 (3) Mass Communication Theory & Research
  • PLSC 350 (3) Scope and Methods
  • PSYC 302 (4) Research Methods in Psychology
  • SCWK 330 (3) Research Methods for Social Work 
  • SOCL 316 (4) Social Research I: Statistics

The methodology requirement may be satisfied through major requirements; however, 18 hours, excluding courses with the designator of the major, are required for the completion of the minor.
